Post-tensioned slabs

Post-tensioned slabs create long-span structures while optimising the amount of concrete and steel: thinner slabs, a lighter building and fewer columns. GEP provides design, supply and installation in Tunisia and abroad for car parks, hotels, offices, shopping centres and structures.

Frequently asked questions

What is post-tensioning?

Prestressing applied after the cast-in-place concrete has hardened: stressed, anchored tendons compress the slab so it spans further with less material.

How does it differ from hollow core slabs?

Hollow core slabs are precast and laid without propping, up to 15 m. Post-tensioned slabs are cast on site, then stressed: they suit very large spaces with few columns.

Which buildings is it for?

Car parks, shopping centres, hotels, offices, open spaces and structures that need long spans and few columns.

Do you work outside Tunisia?

Yes. GEP provides design, supply and installation in Tunisia and abroad.

Who carries out the design?

GEP's in-house engineering office designs and sizes the post-tensioned slab.
